Privacy Policy

This Privacy statement applies specifically to the Strathclyde and Caledonian Nightline Website. (www.scnightline.com).

The website is maintained by staff at the University of Strathclyde Students' Association (USSA) and therefore USSA is referred to in this document as the data controller.

Your privacy is important to us. We therefore operate on the basis of a number of principles:

Principle 1

All calls and anything you tell us during a call is confidential within Nightline.  This means that we will not talk to anyone outside of Nightline about anything we hear in a call. The only exception to this is if a caller provides us with information about an act of terrorism on the phone – in this case we are bound to report this information to police by law.

 Principle 2

The only information we keep is the length of call, the type of call (whether listening support/information request etc), what time the call came in at and the gender of the caller in a call log book.  This is for our own call statistics – absolutely no personal information about you or your call will be recorded and we will never ask for your name or any other identifiable information. If a volunteer takes any additional notes whilst on a call these are shredded in our office straight after the call.

Principle 3

We will not disclose, sell, rent or otherwise exchange any information personal to you to any third party without your prior express approval. The only exceptions to this shall be in order to comply with our legal obligations, to enforce the terms and conditions of use of our web-site or to protect and defend the rights and interests or property of USSA, the University, or other member.

Principle 4

The website will not store in or transfer your personal data to countries outside the EEA (European Economic Area).

Principle 5

By disclosing information about you to us on our web-site or in any other way, you consent to the use of that information in the manner set out in this policy.

Principle 6

As required by Data Protection legislation, USSA (as part of the University of Strathclyde) has notified the Data Protection Commissioner of the types of information we hold, the purposes for which we hold it and the third parties to whom we may disclose it.

If you have any questions regarding Data Protection and this policy, please e-mail admin@strathstudents.com
